As a therapist, consultant and teacher, Marv brings a synthesis of 40 years experience as a therapist in his work with couples. His primary approach is an effort to find the love that lies at the heart of every relationship. Marv takes an approach of curiosity and teaching, rather than finding fault or pinning the blame for problems on one person or the other.

Peggy, his wife of 45 years sits in on all couple counseling sessions to lend her perspective as a wife, mother and a woman. The couples appreciate her quiet steady presence and feminine viewpoint.

Marv believes that problems arise in relationships from a variety of sources: The stress of modern life. Problems with drugs or alcohol. The huge job of child rearing. Unresolved issues from earlier in life that visit the relationship. Injuries that have accrued over the course of the relationship. Conflict with extended family. Lack of understanding of the differences between men and women. And failure to view the relationship as a treasure that needs continual attention and nourishment.

The counseling process begins with the first phone call where a conversation develops to explore the initial reason for seeking counseling. Following that is usually a two hour (minimum) initial session to evaluate the source of the problems and to agree upon a course of action. The follow-up work usually includes weekly sessions, and homework that is specifically tailored to the needs of the unique couple.
